1947 – 2012

Grumpy Scotch’s 65 year flying career

On 22nd August 1947 the instructor clambered out of the front cockpit of my Tiger Moth at Perth aerodrome and said to his teenage student pilot, “Right, have a go at that yourself now. Another landing like those last three will do fine.” And it did.

On 22nd August 2012, as an octogenarian pilot, I took my wife Jane for a flight from Kingsmuir airfield in Fife across to Perth. Jane got out of the aircraft there and watched from the Scottish Aero Club clubhouse as I taxied out to runway 27.
