Weston
Organised by the Dublin team – Liam and Britt Miller
This year’s European AYA Annual Gathering was arranged to be held in Leixslip, a small gentle village west of Dublin in southern Ireland. It had Weston airfield (EIWT) with a 1000 meters hard runway within 10 minutes of the village.
Border formalities at the airfield on arrival were efficient and kept to a minimum, even though a number of the pilots had crossed multiple borders to get there.
Aircraft came for the gathering from England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic. They were conducted by Dublin ATC through the low level route across its zone, over Dublin City and using the River Liffy as the guiding line for those less reliant on the ubiquitous GPS-thingy! En route to the event, Graham Baker and Duncan Moir went on a mission to raise funds for an aviation charity by gaining sponsorship for flying to and touching down at an airfield in all, or near to all four of the UK’s Capital cities (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) before arriving at Weston.
