Gdansk

Organised by Rafal Bartusch and the Mighty Team.

The forthcoming two-day programme was a busy one, so an early start was mandated. Gathering bleary-eyed outside the hotel before setting off on our walking tour of the historic city centre, we had noticed Rafal was carrying a fishing rod and reel. As we set off loosely assembled in groups with our guides, he remained tight lipped, but we sensed something unusual was in store. None of us would ever have guessed the answer to the riddle, while gathered on the bridge leading to the city centre.

none other than Lech Walesa was introduced to us! A murmur went round the group as the penny dropped, and we gathered round to listen to him speak, albeit in Polish, with some interpretation provided by Rafal and the guides. Rafal presented him with the fishing equipment as a thank you for his trouble, and we made our way through the imposing city gate through which the street passed for photographs.
