Great fun with particularly grumpy Grumpies
That´s what happened
We all really enjoyed it!! Great fun although Cricket did look particularly Grumpy!!!
Walter, Ni and George had flown in. Pat and Roger planned to but there was rain….yes, that wet stuff forecast en route so they drove.
We all had a lovely lunch and some yummy cheesecake then said our goodbyes. The gang consited of a smiley Pat, a knowing Ni, a particularly grumpy Cricket, serious George and happy Roger. Those two must have happy pills!
Great day, fabulous to see every one again, especially George, whom some of us haven’t seen for over 3 years.
Some of our great pictures
Our report from Nigel:
A very impromptu meeting was held on Friday 29/07/22. Sturgate was the declared airfield for our adventurous gathering. As it turned out .. it was a ruddy good choice!
It was initially proposed by Grumpy Yorkie (George Brown)and Grumpy Cricket (Walter Gibson), with beautifully supportive words from Grumpy Gyro(Roger Steel) and a slow thinking me! It was so impromptu that I completely forgot that British Gas was sending a blokeperson to inspect and service my central heating boiler that very day…. Oooops! But perhaps that minor problem is best to be ignored. Unfortunately the weather was a trifle inclement oop norf (spoken in a true Yorkshire dialect), so that made it difficult for Gyroman to actually gyrate, so he drove down with the beloved Pat, to join us brave, slim, handsome, aged gentlemen of the fixed wing variety.
Sturgate proved to be ideal for our wants , decent food at the café, cheap fuel (Approx £0.50 per litre cheaper than my home field Bournemouth), decent runway and very helpful and cheerful staff etc. The weather was fine, with good visibility and an adequate cloud height. What more could any true blooded Grumpy desire?
It was nice to see George in such fine fettle, battling on with his medical. He and I haven’t seen each other for about three years … it was a delightful experience, the only problem being that he wasn’t accompanied by his missus, the gorgeous Mary.
We sat out on the café veranda yacking away, spreading gossip and recounting past exploits. It was terrific and brightened the soul.
All too soon we (mainly me really) had to split, as life had its other priorities and British Gas were trying to sell a new boiler to The carer who was looking after Liz!!!
George, Walter, Roger & Pat -Thank you all for your companionship and friendship? We mustn’t wait another 3 years before doing it all again!
