Koblenz
02/06 – 04/06 1989 KOBLENZ Germany organised by Toni Steidl
Europe
by Manfred Stöcker, Regional Director
The all-Europe fly-in June 2-4 was held this year in Koblenz, West Germany. It saw the arrival of 13 Grummans and 41 people in our largest get-together yet. Members attending represented the Netherlands (our only Cougar), Great Britain, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and, would you believe, Texas? The lone Texan, Kenny Burke, managed to get an airline cockpit pass due to his position as a Controller at Fort Worth Center. It was his first trip to Europe and he flew to Germany and back for the weekend to make our fly-in! Thanks, Kenny!
(Ed. note: Kenny told us that he learned more than a little about drinking German beer.)
The agenda started off Friday with an arrival meeting and dinner. The next day we had a boat excursion on the Rhine River, a visit to Drosselgasse in Rudesheim, a tour of Marksburg castle including lunch “knight style,” and dinner with a lot of wine, beer and fun. During the dinner bash we decided that the big 1990 European AYA event will be held in Denmark.
AYAer Vagn Stevnhoved will be arranging the details and informing the membership in a future STAR.
Sunday we all gathered at the airport for breakfast and a final coffee before bidding each other farewell. Many thanks to Karin and Toni Steidl, who made all the arrangements. Those of you who were not there missed making a lot of new friends and experiencing a very successful fly-in. Come next year!
